DRIVING RELATED DOCUMENTATION

As a driver you will at frequent stages in your life need to have dealings with the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) concerning a variety of driving related documentation, some of which are statutory and some which you may simply want for your own requirements.
It can be a bewildering and time consuming activity just trying to find out where to obtain the right documents for what you want, let alone fill them in, and where to submit them.

Here Drivers World tries to take some of the hassle out of this bureaucratic minefield and points you in the right direction for the most commonly used application forms.
 


Application For A Driving Licence – FORM D1.

Obtainable as a pack from Main Post Offices.
It includes booklet INF1D which gives notes on how to fill in the form. It also includes leaflet INS115 which gives details of the various fees. The Post Office also provides a Premium Checking Service for a fee of £4 which will help avoid delays in your application.

Vehicle Licence Application – FORM V10.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

Further information is available in Booklet V100, also available from Main Post Offices. Rates of duty are contained in Forms V149 & V149/1, obtainable from the same source.

HGV Licence Application – Form V85.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

Application Form for a Vehicle Registration Certificate V5C – FORM V62.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

Duplicate Vehicle Licence Disc Application Form – FORM V20.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

Application for an Exchange Vehicle Licence – FORM V70.

Rates of Vehicle Excise Duty – FORM V149.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

Gives current rates of excise duty for all classes of vehicles.


Refund Application – on return of a vehicle licence disc – FORM V14.

Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) – FORM V890.

Obtainable from Main Post Offices, or DVLA Local Offices.

A statutory requirement when your vehicle is not taxed and is being kept off the road.

Application to Retain a Vehicle Registration number – FORM V778/1.

Obtainable from DVLA Local Offices.

The fee is £105 (as on 1st September 2006).

Transferring a Vehicle Registration number – FORM V317.

The fee is £80 (as on 1st September 2006).
