Tests

Most people find learning to drive is a stressful experience and anything an instructor can do to help a pupil concentrate on the task in hand should be done. A distracted pupil is not conducive to a climate in which learning takes place.

Having to take either a Theory Test or Practical Driving Test is not an experience most learners relish. They do not want the additional hassle of actually having to book them, and all that is involved therein.

A professional and conscientious instructor should therefore consider doing the administration required and offer to provide a booking and back-up service for both of these tests.

Once you have done it a few times it becomes routine and there are a number of benefits for both pupil and instructor which make the effort worth while.

1.        The pupil will be relieved of the responsibility of the task and will be grateful for all your help. So much so that a recommendation to friends and relatives is likely and more pupils will come your way.

2.        In the case of both tests you have control over the date, time and test centre and with just a little liaison between you and your pupil clashes with other commitments can be avoided.

3.        In the case of the Theory Test you can arrange an additional one hour lesson immediately prior to the test for the purposes of a little ‘last minute revision’. The final destination of the lesson would be at the test centre itself where you wait while they take the test and then drive them home. In this way it again looks as though you are providing an excellent service and at the same time gaining two extra lessons. You may have to offer a slightly reduced hourly rate for this since your involvement is minimal.

4.        In the case of the Practical Driving Test the same arrangement can be applied as for that of the Theory Test. This is a common and well established practice which pupils accept without question. The instructor gains a two hour lesson. The pupil has the use of a suitable vehicle which is familiar and which would otherwise have to be borrowed or hired. The examiner will appreciate a dual controlled vehicle being presented for the test. Everybody gains.
